kuwaiti with some free time and much internet browsing

. . .

Low profile kuwaiti bloggers

June 30, 2005

I think we kuwaiti bloggers are under the rader , which could be good and could be bad

For example in dar Alhayat Newspaper [link][via] i found these 2 lines about kuwaiti bloggers

English translation

And kuwaiti bloggers has nothing to fear from their government , they have meetings and the kuwaiti blogs are grouped in one location , there are women and men , and i read that there are over 100 bloggers in kuwait

And that was only 2 lines in a series of 7 article !

Other than some article from abdullatif al duaije ( عبداللطيف الدعيح ) than link to some blog from time to time , others do not show any connetion with bloggers .

What do you think , is going under the rader good or bad ?

  1. He does have his facts some what right, they are over a 100 blogs listed, but in terms of reoccurring blog posts is something else. Guessing from the traffic in Safat I’d say we have like 30 regular bloggers.

I also think we are on the radar but they just dont know how to deal with us, or afraid to deal with us cause in Kuwait we have this open freedom to talk about what ever we want in the Diwaniyas. It is our bastion of free speech even the government knows they can’t touch that area, and I feel the blogs are an extension of the diwaniyas, an e-diwaniya of sorts.

Say they block a blog or blogspot.com I am sure Al-Duaij will be writing up a storm of the oppression the government is putting on us. So I am sure we have our supporters and besides we are just a bunch of people with too much time on our hands writing about Hello Kitty and cool websites, what could we do? ,).

  2. The uncultured American learns something new today! I’m assuming the following definition of Diwaniyas is somewhat correct…

“It is our bastion of free speech even the government knows they can’t touch that area, and I feel the blogs are an extension of the diwaniyas, an e-diwaniya of sorts. ”

That’s an interesting perspective nibaq. Oral traditions have always been a powerful tool (from my perspective) and the jump to modern technology doesn’t lessen that, in my opinion. Unfortunately, our oral traditions have been replaced with Michael Jackson, bad sit-coms, and reality tv.
