July 29, 2007

If you were wondering where the name come from wonder no more

There are list of Names to pick from , the list is compilation of Contribution from Nations that are mostly to get effected by cyclone
so for tropical cyclone in North Indian Ocean , the nations are ” Bangladesh India Maldives Myanmar Oman Pakistan Sri Lanka Thailand”
the list comes from wikipedia [link]

The names contributed by Omar are really hilarious
Baaz Luban Hudhud Ward Sidr Mujan Nada Maha

Maha المها is Oryx , why would you name a Cyclone Oryx ? ( a cyclone with oryx heads out of it ! )
Ward ورد is Roses , Again why would you name it a cheerful name ? ” yeah cyclone Ward was a degree 5 it destroyed everything ”

if you had the chance to name a cyclone what would you name it ?

  1. hmm.. I guess Oryx is there in Oman’s list because Oman is very well known for its Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, which is four times bigger than Bahrain State. And also, Mujan is there in Oman’s list because Mujan is one of Oman’s names. In fact, Oman was called Mujan by The Persians. Mujan means copper and Oman was called the land of copper. As for the rest names, I have no idea where did they come from.

Oh yeah, there is Luban. I guess everyone is aware of the volume of Luban Oman produces every year. :-)
