kuwait , my great country ( at least in my eye ) it has its up and downs , but its still my country

Aren’t there other people who need that money more ?

Al Rai Al-Amm

if you can’t read arabic

” His highness Sheik Sabah AlAhmad Al-Sabah a Dinner party for the sons of Al-Sabah family in Bayan Palace
And he expressed his gratitude for the cooperation between the family members
Then the National Guard Leader Sheik Salem Al-Ali announced his donation of 30 million Kuwaiti dinnar for the welfare of the people inside the family (as in Al-Sabah family) to cover the period of 3 year, and the establishment of a new organization to take care of war victims families in Kuwait and that he is going to donate 10 million Kuwaiti dinnar for it ”

I think stuff like that shouldn’t be in newspaper in the first place, and he shouldn’t have talked about it!
My god, 30 million for the welfare? Is there Sabah family on welfare in the first place? And 30 million? Is your standard really that high? Lets say they are 5 thousand (and I don’t think they are)
That means each year its 10 million on 5 thousand, that’s 2000 a year per person aka 166 KD per month

Yeah that may seem little, but think about it, who doesn’t have a job in Kuwait? Most Kuwaiti’s get employed by the government in the end to appease the mass
And what I estimated the number to be include ministers and their families
And also Salem Al-Ail family.

oh well , i’ll stop before i go far and get Secret service on my ass

p.s: i used a shareware program to resize the image , thats why there is a star on His highness Sheik Sabah AlAhmad Al-Sabah

Women Vote

Well, it’s the hot topic here at Kuwait now, and among bloggers, so I wanted to say what I think about it

Do they want it?
I know most of you would yeah! But why can’t we see it? Why aren’t they asking for it, demanding it, going to the street?

Where are the demonstrations ?
Hit the street, if you can’t vote the only way to show support is to take it to the street, big rallies, show that there is really women who want it, that’s why some say they are going to rally a lot of women (not likely)
Show them you can gather more, 1000 women is not a big rally for something this important
Get 10,000.

Victory has many fathers, defeat is an orphan
That’s a famous Arabic proverb, which is exactly what’s happening here

  • women organization: I’m sorry but in the last 10 years they didn’t do anything
  • liberal groups: they are going to claim they are the ones that did it, with their parliament majority of zero
  • Islamic brotherhood: same as liberal, but they have a bigger majority in the parliament, two.
  • hizb al ummah: they are going to claim they are the ones that did it, with their parliament majority of zero
  • salaf: as sad and as stupid they think we are, they are going to claim they are the ones that did it, while they were not for it in the first place
  • So having listed most of the ” major power ” that should claim he did it if women got to vote? In the end the government

Do I think it’s going to make it this time?
I’m sure it would, why? Because this time the government is trying to rally people behind the idea for women to vote, this time it’s on the TV, it wasn’t on TV in 1999
Not to mention the backing of the government newspapers (alwatan)

    Can the government pull it?
Why even ask? The government hold all the cards in the game, the only reason its doing it to show it self as a force for democracy in the middle east, to show that they also care about women votes, Qatar got the spotlight when they let women and men vote, why not have some of that spotlight

    Is our democracy missing?
If you go by western standard yes its missing women vote, and to be complete women should vote
But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there to start with!
That’s what I hate the most
People that say stuff like “ women vote mean democracy in Kuwait “, “ we want democracy in Kuwait! Let women vote “
No, not having women doesn’t mean you don’t have democracy, it mean you don’t have a complete one, just like the USA, they say their democracy is 400 years old, while women were only able to vote in the last 100 of it, they didn’t discard all the years before, they are still proud of it
    women suffrage timeline

What I think of women voting rights
If you asked me that question 3-4 years ago I would tell you women shouldn’t vote
Why did I think of that? For two reasons:

  • First that women aren’t ready for voting rights in Kuwait, and that our democracy is young, of course after more years talking with the voters and the new generation of voters, I see that most men aren’t ready to vote either, so why not add more people who aren’t ready to vote.
  • The second reason is that I believe that women shouldn’t take major ruling part, or as they say it in Arabic ” ولايه عامه “, but watching the parliament in the last few years made me believe that they aren’t much of a power
    To begin with.
  • So in short, if they can get their voting right, good for them, if they can’t I’m not going out burning cars for it

good luck ladies, may Allah give you power and make you successful if you deserve it

    bloggers meetup

It was the monthly kuwait bloggers meetup , this time we went to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf a very nice establishment , i was there a bit early ( i always try to get early if i have a meeting or interview or date with someone , getting early is better than getting late )

anyway , it was a nice to attach faces and sound to bloggers , first to come was the crazy afro man , tatabotata his afro is something you don’t see a lot here in kuwait
then Nibaq or as some call him blogging godfather
then Bloboz the man with crazy thought , the man you always agree with , the blogger who everyone enjoy his posts they steal it
then busynow ( i’m out of crazy naming 🙁 )

we sat there , talked about blogging , gossiped about some bloggers , one of us had too much gossip
disucssed latest topic , then it became general chat , the topics ( سوالف ) just drift going here and there.

meeting strangers is a new experince for me , of course this is the second meeting with bloggers , most who i met in the first meeting ( bloboz was the new guy , and he got a friend with him , maybe to back him up ? 😛 )
of course since there is a month gap between each meeting and the other we got to talk about what happened to our life , sometimes there are stuff you wouldn’t want to post in a blog, but would talk about it normaly with friends

thanks for the fun night blogpals© 🙂

    E-government

the fad now is E-government , everyone want everything online , some make it , some don’t

of course since we in kuwait enjoy participating in fads , they started kuwait e-government
some Ministries have working functioning sites , with much help online

for example Public Authority for Civil Information have
Civil ID Enquiry Service ( of course you get more service in arabic , since its the offical language in kuwait )

saddly most Ministries have sites that only have normal information , no updated statistic , or service that they perform and give it to us online .

for example Ministry of Intertior ( again english site suck and you have to use arabic ) has no statistic so ever , you could ( for a short time , around 2 days after they opened the site ) check your tickets online , which is great , better than calling and waiting for someone to pick it up , then they removed it .
of course , knowing how stuff work in kuwait , they had it open for a few days , showed it to the Minister and select others who happen to control the contracts for renewal …etc , and afte they saw it they don’t care about it anymore and since it take resource they took it down

the first link to the e-government site could help you people working on Kuwiki so go and and write more , don’t let me and nibaq article stay lonely 🙂

    rain and picture

Knowing that most people would be in the street on 25 Feb I didn’t want to go out
But then the family told me they were going to wafra at one of our relative farm
The weather was fine so I agreed

Not long after we left it started heavy raining, and I do mean heavy raining!!

    highway to wafra

After a while it stopped, later we found out that it kept on raining in Kuwait city, yet it wasn’t raining as much (kind like few drops here and there) the further you went south

Any way, I want to discuss another thing, how do you people with camera take pictures!! My god I can’t even stop anywhere or walk to take a picture
Once I hold the camera to take a picture of anything people start looking at me, I see people getting there mobile and start dialing , and i have to move or the cops show up ( they did once ) .

I remember back in 1999 , It was summer training , I was stationed at Directorate General of Civil Aviation , I had to make a report , so I borrowed a digi-cam from a friend of mine
Went there, took some picture inside and the next day I got one of the student to help me take picture outside, me with the plate that has the name outside

Less than 4 minute later, airport security jeep come and take it us to interrogation, after ½ hour of interrogation they found out we just wanted to take a picture for a report (which what I said the first minute, but you know police & security), they let us out and told me to get a permit, I asked where from and nobody knows

( of course i did manage to get a picture later for the report, below is what i used )

    DGCA

So since I can’t do like others (cough cough mark cough) and say I’m from outside Kuwait Does anyone know where to get a permit?
